  • SonicWALL Continuous Data Protection Buyers Guide

When buying a CDP device there are several things you must consider.
    1. How much storage will you need to have onsite?
    2. How will you maintain the device?
    3. How will you store your data offsite?
    4. How much storage will you need offsite?
    5. Would you like to be able to restore workstations immediately in the event of data loss?

How much storage will you need to have onsite?
The answer to this question will determine which device would be best for you. The following table should help you decide what device you would need with respect to your storage requirements.

    Storage Requirements Device Needed
    192GB or less CDP 1440i
    192GB-300GB CDP 2440i
    300GB-800GB CDP 3440i
    800GB-1.2TB CDP 4440i

How will you maintain the device?
SonicWALL provides two main support options when it comes to the CDP devices. One support option is 8x5 and the other is 24x7 support.

    • 8x5 support provides technical support during your local business hours, firmware updates, and a hardware warranty.
    • 24x7 support provides technical support around the clock, firmware updates, and a hardware warranty. This level of support will also guarantee overnight replacement of the hardware in the case of failure.
    • Prices for support will vary between each device.

How will you store your data offsite?
When addressing this question there are two options to choose from:

    1. Offsite storage from SonicWALL- This is a subscription based service that varies depending on the amount of storage space you would need to store your data offsite.
    2. Site-to-Site Service- This is also a subscription-based service. You would need this service if you chose to purchase a second CDP device to use to store your data offsite. The service involves the capability to send your data between CDP devices. The data would be sent from your onsite CDP device to the offsite CDP device.

How much storage will you need offsite?
If you choose to use SonicWALL offsite service then you will need to decide how much offsite storage capacity you would need. This is a subscription-based service priced based on how much storage you would need.

Would you like to be able to restore workstations immediately in the event of data loss?
If so, then Bare Metal Recovery would be a good option for you. This feature allows you to immediately restore a PC or Server without having to reinstall any additional software.
